Profit-Maximizing Trustworthiness Level of Composite Systems

چکیده
Service providers face the ever-increasing problem of meeting customer expectations while maximizing profits. This optimal balance is very important for delivering better service quality to users and keeping costs under control through efficient resource allocation. In this paper we suggest optimal strategies for managing system trustworthiness in two different contexts. In the first one the provider has limited information about the users’ trustworthiness preferences, which have to be satisfied on every transaction. In the second context, the provider knows what the effect of possible outcomes on customer’s trust level and, given that the customer will perform a certain number of transactions, would like to know whether the system trustworthiness should be managed at any point in time in order to meet customer’s expectations in a costeffective way. The optimality of the proposed strategies is demonstrated via both analytical techniques and simulations.

The Determinants of Optimal Interchange Fees in Payment Systems
A fundamental aspect of any open payment system is the interchange fee that is paid from the merchant’s bank to the cardholder’s bank. Using a model in which there is partial participation by heterogeneous consumers and merchants, this paper characterizes the output maximizing, profit maximizing and welfare maximizing level of such an interchange fee. It examines how the optimal level of the fe...
متن کاملA profit-maximizing approach for transmission expansion planning using a revenue-cap incentive mechanism
This paper proposes an incentive mechanism for transmission expansion planning. The mechanism is a bilevel program. The upper level is a profit-maximizing transmission company (Transco) which expands its transmission system while endogenously predicts and influences the generation investment. The lower level is the optimal generation dispatch and investment. The Transco funds its transmission i...
متن کاملMaximum Maintainability of Complex Systems via Modulation Based on DSM and Module Layout.Case Study:Laser Range Finder
The present paper aims to investigate the effects of modularity and the layout of subsystems and parts of a complex system on its maintainability. For this purpose, four objective functions have been considered simultaneously: I) maximizing the level of accordance between system design and optimum modularity design,II) maximizing the level of accessibility and the maintenance space required,III...
متن کاملPreemptive Possibilistic Linear Programming:Application to Aggregate Production Planning
This research proposes a Preemptive Possibilistic Linear Programming (PPLP) approach for solving multiobjective Aggregate Production Planning (APP) problem with interval demand and imprecise unit price and related operating costs. The proposed approach attempts to maximize profit and minimize changes of workforce. It transforms the total profit objective that has imprecise information to three ...
متن کاملService Level Based Capacity Rationing Procedure for Make-To-Order Manufacturing Systems
We extend a heuristic method within the framework of “dynamic capacity apportionment procedure” (DCAP) to allocate an existing capacity among the classes with different profit contributions. In general, DCAP is applied when some capacity shortage exists and can not be enhanced in short - run. Our proposed approach is constructed for a make - to - order manufacturing system that produces a varie...
